obliterazioni 2015 – open call

Obliterazioni represents a concrete initiative within namVisualArt, an experimental and inclusive project that brings art in daily life to shape quality and stimulate reflection on sensitive issues in the sign of an active, ethical, responsible attitude. Taking Levinas’ concept, obliteration is a sign (no sign) that interrupts the usual logic of interest, appearance, prejudice, indifference and finds no other justification in anything but in this deprivation that becomes the key access to consciousness. Photographs, paintings, sculptures, small art objects get into a room or shop window, talk with the goods on display and with people, get mixed with them not to demand a space but to build a relationship and dialogue. Every possible creative expression, even accompanied by the word or purely textual, thus finds a way to get in direct contact with the public, also outside of traditional exhibition spaces.

“If a man is called to be a street sweeper, he should sweep streets even as a Michaelangelo painted, or Beethoven composed music or Shakespeare wrote poetry. He should sweep streets so well that all the hosts of heaven and earth will pause to say, ‘Here lived a great street sweeper who did his job well’.”
Martin Luther King

This quote is worth a thousand words, focuses on everybody’s creativity as a tool for understanding the world, imagination as a gateway to consciousness. Today more than ever it is necessary to help to awaken the critical conscience drugged by television addiction, resignation. We live in a society dominated by the logic of power and market that do not spare anyone, not even culture that, domesticated, bends to the needs of cultural industry and gives up on freedom and its experimental vocation. The task of art, of culture is to aim at the person, to be inclusive exploring the alchemy of possibility and to offer an ethical and nonviolent vision of the world.

A new Humanism is possible only if you believe in it.

Everyone is invited to contribute to the project sending by 31 January 2015:
